Following a short break, rapper, singer-songwriter and producer ItsReaperx has triumphantly returned with a handful of tracks. Today’s article focuses on the song ‘EverydayZeroes’.
The pessimism of the song’s title is reflected in its lyrics instantly. ‘I’m drinking until I fallout, you don’t know me or what the fuck I’m about.’ The pummelling 808’s that coincide with these opening bars are like a brutal gut punch, dragging the listener feet first into Reaper’s tortured mental state. ‘I know you riding them while I’m riding my wave’ is a telling line in more ways than one, so much so that it stands out amidst a flurry of equally barbed, vindictive laments.
This might be the angriest song that Reaper has ever recorded. ‘Don’t Stab Me in the Back, I Never Did’ was pretty vicious, but ‘EverydayZeroes’ has a uniquely disgusted tone to it. Assumedly the ‘Zeroes’ are those who have abandoned the artist along the path of her musical journey and are therefore deserving of such a scorching lyrical takedown. ‘It’s funny though how you act tough knowing damn well I can make it worse’, she spits towards the end of the track, a chill-inducing threat that things are only going to get uglier for her newfound enemies if they keep playing with fire in the way that they have.
I’m a sucker for Reaper’s emotionally intense style of writing, and this song is no different. Indeed, with ‘EverydayZeroes’ she may have found the perfect style for her more aggressive return to the scene.
